Superintendent Update September 17, 2021 Test to Stay Program

The Erlanger-Elsmere Schools has partnered with Ethos Laboratories (Newport, KY) to create a “Test to Stay” program. This is a completely voluntary program that is supported by the State so there is no cost to you or the school district. As we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our staff, students, and families and the continuation of in-person learning, this “Test to Stay” program will provide an opportunity for some staff and students to remain in classrooms instead of quarantining. Our “Test to Stay” program will begin on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

How It Works

Staff and students that voluntarily enter the “Test to Stay” program will be given a rapid COVID-19 test each day for five (5) consecutive school days. A negative test result will allow that student or staff member to report to school or work for the day.

Who is eligible to enroll in the “Test to Stay” program?

  • Staff and students of the Erlanger-Elsmere Schools that meet the following criteria:

    • Unvaccinated close contacts to a positive case of COVID-19

      • Fully vaccinated individuals are not eligible for this program

        • Fully vaccinated individuals are not required to quarantine unless they are symptomatic and, therefore, do not need to test to stay

    • Close contact must have occurred in the school environment

    • Must be symptom free

How does a staff member or student enroll in the “Test to Stay” program?

  • You will find directions for enrollment in the “Test to Stay” program here or on our Healthy at School page

  • It is highly recommended that eligible staff and students enroll in the program now, and not wait until they are notified of close contact status

    • Failure to enroll ahead of time could result in a staff member or student not being tested and having to quarantine

  • All those enrolled have the ability to opt out at anytime

When and where will the testing occur?

  • Scheben Gymnasium, on the campus of Lloyd Memorial High School will be the testing location for all staff and students enrolled in the “Test to Stay” program

  • Daily testing will begin at 7:30 AM and will continue until all enrolled staff and students have completed testing

How do I notify my school of the test results?

  • Staff and students will be provided with a paper copy of their test results

  • Students should submit the test results paper to the attendance clerk at their school

  • Staff should submit the test results paper to their principal, immediate supervisor, or their designee

  • Results will also be sent to the account’s email address

What kind of COVID-19 test will be taken and how many days will someone have to test?

  • Students and staff enrolled in the “Test to Stay” program will be required to take a rapid COVID-19 test (COVID-19 Rapid Antigen POC testing)

  • Testing will occur each day for five (5) consecutive school days

What happens if a staff member or student tests positive for COVID-19?

  • School or district administration will inform the family of a student’s positive test result

  • If the rapid test is positive for COVID-19 the staff member or student will be given a PCR test ( COVID-19 Viral Testing (VR100) PCR – Nasal Swab) to confirm the positive result

  • The staff member or student will be required to quarantine until the results of the PCR test are back (usually 24-48 hours)

  • A negative result from the PCR test will allow the staff member or student to continue in the “Test to Stay” program

  • A confirmed positive for COVID-19 will enter the isolation protocols of the 2021-2022 Erlanger-Elsmere Schools Plan for Safe Return to In-person Instruction plan
