On Monday, November 14, students from Tichenor Middle School participated in the Kentucky Department of Education sponsored, regional S.T.L.P. (Student Technology Leadership Program) competition held at Northern Kentucky University (NKU). NKU is one of several venues held around the state of Kentucky where the students compete with other schools in their Region and have the opportunity to advance on to the State competition held at Rupp Arena each year.
S.T.L.P. uses project-based learning principles to empower student learning and achievement through the utilization and creation of technology to solve community, instructional, or technical needs. Student presentations go before a judging panel and are evaluated on student Creativity & Innovation, Communication & Collaboration, Research, Critical Thinking & Problem Solving, and Digital Citizenship.
In addition to student projects, each student has the opportunity to create a personal product and compete in any of the following categories: Digital Music, Technical Writing, Storytelling, Gaming, Photography, Multimedia, GIS\Maps, Graphic Design, Video Production, Digital Art, Podcasts & Blogging, as well as other options that the student may have an interest or skillset.
Tichenor Middle School, a first time S.T.L.P. initiative, will move on to compete at Rupp Arena in Lexington on April 12, 2017. The best project from all schools at the elementary, middle, and high school levels will have the opportunity to attend the national ISTE event held in San Antonio, June 25-28, 2017.
Congratulations to Tichenor Middle School!
