Nash Faris

Congratulations to Lloyd student Nash Faris on his acceptance into the 2026 Governor’s Scholars Program!

The Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program is a highly competitive, five-week residential summer program for outstanding rising high school seniors. Established in 1983, it aims to inspire the Commonwealth's next generation of civic and economic leaders and encourage top students to build their futures in Kentucky. Scholars take a core Focus Area class, a General Studies class, and participate in personal development seminars. There are no grades or credits; the focus is on critical thinking and intellectual growth.

To participate, students must first compete at the school and/or district level before advancing to the statewide selection process. Applications are evaluated based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community involvement.

Nash's academic, leadership, and extracurricular accomplishments certainly make him a suitable candidate.

A rising senior at Lloyd, Nash is part of the Young Scholars Academy (YSA), taking college courses on Northern Kentucky University's campus as a full-time college student. There, he is a member of the YSA Ambassadors, a leadership group that plans for and volunteers for program-wide events, and he was accepted as one of five members on the YSA Ambassador Leadership Team, where he will plan the Ambassador meetings. He has been a member of Lloyd’s tennis team for the past five years. And, at Lloyd, he is a member of the National Honor Society and is part of the Youth Ambassadors, a leadership group that promotes mental health awareness and advocates against substance abuse.

“I was interested in applying for the Governor’s Scholars Program because I love to experience new things and meet new people. I have attended two week-long residential summer engineering camps and was able to learn a lot while making connections in the process,” Nash said. “GSP is a five-week-long program with many people, so there will be an abundance of opportunities to make friends. As a highly social person, this was a major reason why I wanted to attend it. Additionally, I applied for GSP because of the array of new experiences it will offer; I will gain experience living on a college campus and learning in a challenging environment. Additionally, I will be able to improve my leadership and communication skills while collaborating in groups.”

Selected students attend the program completely free of charge. While GSP itself does not issue monetary prizes, completing the program qualifies students for valuable scholarships at most public and private colleges and universities within the state.

“I know people who have attended the program and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I look forward to experiencing it as well,” Nash added. “I am thrilled to live in a new environment for an extended period of time with other high achievers. I am excited to participate in a variety of activities and learn more about whichever focus area I am assigned. I anticipate meeting new people and forming new friendships throughout my time at GSP.”

This prestigious achievement reflects Nash's academic excellence and his commitment to his school and community. We commend him for his hard work and are incredibly proud to see his efforts recognized at such a competitive level!
