Revisions to EES Plan for Safe Return to In-person Instruction

Effective Monday, February 14, 2022 masks/face coverings will be recommended for staff, students, and visitors. This will make masks/face coverings optional for students, staff, and visitors at our facilities.

Per federal regulations masks/face coverings will continue to be required on all school buses.

All other current practices related to isolation, quarantine, and other mitigation strategies will continue.

You can view the full plan on our Healthy at School page.

Schools Open on Tuesday, February 8, 2022

The Erlanger-Elsmere Schools will be open on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. While the conditions on our campuses are suitable for a safe return to school, there are still conditions on sidewalks and crosswalks across the two cities that warrant special attention. Lingering snow and ice on sidewalks and mounds of snow/ice from the plowing of roads are obstacles that will be present, especially for our walkers. The sidewalks and crosswalks in both cities remain mostly covered by snow and/or ice at this time.  Parents may wish to work with neighbors and family members to secure transportation to school tomorrow. We are looking forward to seeing all of our students back in school tomorrow!

All activities canceled February 4-6. Snow Removal
Erlanger-Elsmere Schools Facilities Closed

All events at Erlanger-Elsmere Schools facilities are canceled from February 4th through February 6th. Our efforts are focused on cleaning and preparing our campuses for a safe reopening of schools on Monday, February 7th. Thank you.

Schools Closed February 7, 2022 NTI Day #4

For the safety of our students, staff, and visitors all Erlanger-Elsmere Schools will be closed on Monday, February 7, 2022. This will be NTI Day #4 for students and staff.

We still have significant areas of ice on the sidewalks and entrances to our facilities. With temperatures dropping overnight and remaining below freezing through the morning a re-freeze will create some very slick and hazardous conditions.

Updated Calendar posted

The updated school calendar has been posted. Please note that the last day for students is now May 26, 2022.

Erlanger-Elsmere Schools Closed January 18, 2022

The Erlanger-Elsmere Schools are closed tomorrow, January 18, 2022.

Our parking lots and campus sidewalks will not be in a condition to safely receive all students and staff, even with an hour delay. Cold temperatures will continue through the morning hours tomorrow that will effect our ability to melt the snow and ice for a safe arrival.

This is not an NTI day. It is a traditional school closure for weather related reasons.

As we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our staff, students, and families and the continuation of in-person learning, this “Test to Stay” program will provide an opportunity for some staff and students to remain in classrooms instead of quarantining. Virtual Learning for All Students on Monday, February 8, 2021

Dear EES Staff and Families,

I want to share some exciting news with you. On January 17, 2021, many of the Erlanger-Elsmere Schools staff took part in the COVID 19 vaccine program. We are so grateful to St. Elizabeth Healthcare for providing this service to our staff.

On Sunday, February 7, 2021, staff will receive their second dose of the COVID 19 vaccine. This puts us one-step closer to achieving our goal of returning our students to a more consistent model of in person instruction.

With such a large percentage of our staff receiving their second dose of the vaccine, and the potential side effects of the vaccine, we do anticipate a staff shortage on Monday, February 8, 2021.

Therefore, there will be no in person classes on Monday, February 8, 2021. All EES students should follow their school’s virtual learning schedule for the day.

I appreciate your understanding and flexibility in this matter. We are looking forward to the opportunities having our staff vaccinated will bring for your children in the near future. Thank you for your continued cooperation, collaboration, support, and patience. Should you have any questions please contact the Board Office, your child’s school, or the preschool staff.

Marching Band Update

This morning, Mr. Jason Stoltz, director of the Lloyd High School Marching Band, advised district administrators that several band members had come in contact with a person outside of band practice who was exhibiting flu-like symptoms. After consultation with our district health personnel – and out of an abundance of caution and concern for our Marching Band family – we are discontinuing all band practice for the remainder of the week. District and band staff will continue to monitor this situation and will advise accordingly as information becomes available.

The health and safety of our students is always our top priority. If you have any questions or concerns, please call our District Board Office at 859.727.2009.

Input Sought From Families and Students on the Reopening of Schools

The Kentucky Department of Education recently released their safety expectations for the upcoming school year, and in order to meet them, our school experience is going to be a little bit different than it has in the past. Right now, we’re collaborating with representatives at the school and district levels, our Board of Education, and state and local agencies to work through these expectations to determine how we can best implement them in our schools.

We would like your input on a few options that are presenting themselves through our discussions and planning. Please take a few moments to complete this survey and provide us with valuable information to guide our plan for the opening of our schools in 2020-2021.

Students will need to sign in to their district Google account in order to complete the Student Survey.

Please respond by no later than Sunday, July 12, 2020.

Gracias.

Explanation of Last NTI Day and Last Day for Students of May 8, 2020

Due to the pandemic the state legislature is requiring that schools obtain the required number of 1062 hours to complete the school year.  Both in-person and NTI days count toward the 1062 hours.  The date at which the 1062 hours are achieved in our school district is May 8, 2020.  Therefore, May 8th will be the last NTI Day and the last day of school for students for the 2019-20 school year.  Thank you.

Last Day for NTI Day and Last Day for Students will be May 8, 2020

Today, Governor Beshear and Kevin Brown, our Interim State Commissioner of Education shared that the restriction on in-person instruction for students will be extended through the end of the school year. EES will follow this recommendation and continue our NTI Days to complete the 2019-2020 school year.  This means that our last NTI Day and our last day of school for students will be May 8, 2020.

We will be sharing additional information in the upcoming days and weeks about the impact on end of the year activities and we will be working on planning out those details. Our district will also work to continue to provide meals throughout the NTI days and in the summer as much as possible.

Our schools will be contacting you near the end of the week for continued assignments and instruction to complete the remaining weeks of NTI. Please contact our Board of Education if we can be of assistance to you.  Thank you.

We need YOUR Help: The 2020 Census is here, and the stakes for Kentucky could not be higher!

Many of the programs our schools, our cities, our state and our non-profits rely on need this data for funding. These are programs such as food services, educational, services, special education, federal programs, federal grants, roads, transportation, and other programs that are assisting our communities right now during this difficult time. Every 10 years, the United States government conducts the Census — a national accounting of everyone living in every state. A complete count is crucial so that Kentucky gets its fair share of federal funds for the next 10 years. Even though we are navigating a difficult time because of COVID-19, there couldn’t be a more important moment to fill out the census. Census data is used to determine school funding, federal disaster relief, hospital funding, Medicare, Medicaid, and more.

As of this week only 51.8% of Elsmere Residents and 58.1% of Erlanger Residents had completed their Census Data.  Please do your part and complete your Census today.  Thank you!

Complete your Census here:  https://2020census.gov/

Informational Message for all Parents/Guardians and Staff

The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security issued a release describing a possible threat, generic in nature, to schools in Arkansas and Kentucky for Wednesday, August 28, 2019.  They have not confirmed the source or verified the threat.  The Kentucky Office released this statement:

“We are aware of a Facebook post circulating about a possible incident at a school being planned for the 28th in Kentucky and the 29th in Arkansas.  Initially, the threat was reported to FBI Little Rock from an individual outside of the US.  The threat was read in a gaming chat room that indicated there is going to be an incident at a Kentucky on the 28th of this month.  The threat DID NOT name a specific location in either state and was very generalized.  At this time, the complaint is UNSUBSTANTIATED.  If anything further develops from this report, the KIFC will push out additional information as it becomes available.  The FBI and the KIFC, as well as state and local law enforcement, continue to monitor this situation.”

At no time was any Erlanger-Elsmere School specifically mentioned in the threat. The Erlanger-Elsmere School District will continue to communicate with local, state, and federal authorities as needed, going forward.  The safety of our students, staff and visitors is of the utmost importance to us.  As always, our school and district administrators are available to discuss any concerns.

After School Programs

Unite with us and the Erlanger-Elsmere community to ensure the afterschool program can continue changing lives of children and families in Northern Kentucky. Together, we can unite communities to change lives.

For years, Howell Elementary’ s Afterschool Program has provided a safe and structured environment for hundreds of children of working parents in our region. Programs like this one are known to boost academic performance, reduce risky behaviors and even promote physical health. But now, the program is in danger because of unexpected funding cuts.

Help us raise $25,000 to save the program. With your support, we can maintain full enrollment and give 50 more children a safe, strong start.

2017-2018 School Calendar Change

We are happy to welcome you and your children back to school and the start of the 2017-18 school year. The first day of school for all students in grades K-12 will be August 17th. Prior to the start of school, and as soon as we possibly could, we want to make you aware of an adjustment to our 2017-18 school calendar.

On Monday, August 21 , 2017 we will experience a total solar eclipse, an event that hasn't occurred over the U.S .mainland since 1979.  Since the eclipse will be at its peak around the time of dismissal in the afternoon, we do not want to take the risk of having children watch it without proper eye protection on their way home from school whether they are walking, riding buses, or waiting to be picked up from school. While we could provide students with protective glasses, we would need permission slips to do so, and we cannot guarantee they will wear them after school.

Therefore, August 21, 2017 will now be an off day for students and a staff only work day (PLC Day).
