People participating in Amazing Race to kindergarten.

Incoming students and their families recently experienced an Amazing Race to Kindergarten!

More than 30 students and their families participated in fun events at district elementary schools as they raced around the building to complete activities at different kindergarten readiness stations. The race included a tour around the school building as they completed each activity.

While there were prizes for first, second, and third place, each student walked away with a special bag packed full of materials to get ready for kindergarten over the summer, with each student receiving an individualized learning plan on skills they can practice over the summer utilizing Brigance parent readiness activities.

Teachers and staff members participated in each event, and all participants enjoyed a delicious dinner together.

The next stop for these ambitious racers? Kindergarten in August!

In addition, more than 20 families participated in district Kindergarten Readiness Nights, which explored what it means for children to be “kindergarten ready.” This was the first year for these informative evenings, which explore social/emotional development, physical milestones, reading, writing, and math readiness – and give parents practical tips on how to support these important skills at home!

Thanks to everyone who participated and to everyone behind the scenes – including Family Resource Center and Families in Transition partners – who helped make the event a huge success.
